Thursday 14 February 2008
The arrival of the Chinese New Year was celebrated in style by students at the University of Surrey with an evening of acrobats, jugglers and Chinese lion dancers.
The celebration has been acclaimed one of the most popular after growing in popularity in recent years. More than 500 guests gathered at Rubix where students donned traditional costumes to mark the New Year of the Rat.
The event was organised by the Students’ Union with the assistance from the Chinese Asian Society, the Chinese Students' and Scholars Association and the Guildford Chinese Christian Fellowship.
The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Mike Nevins, and senior university staff also attended.
