Surrey Professor appointed new Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Tourism Research

Monday 7 January 2008

Elsevier Publishers recently announced that Professor John Tribe from the University of Surrey is to take up the editorship of Annals of Tourism Research from January 2008, following on from Dr Jafar Jafari who has edited the journal since its inception.

In a letter of appreciation sent to members of the editorial board, Professor Tribe included the following comments: "I am truly honoured to be appointed as Editor-in-Chief, indeed for me it is probably one of the most significant milestones of my academic career. I thank Jafar, Tony Roche and the Elsevier team very much for entrusting the next few years of the development of Annals with me. I will do my utmost to uphold the standards and traditions of the journal and I would also like to thank Jafar for his warm wishes and congratulations. Jafar will be a very hard act to follow. For over the years he has carefully crafted and nurtured the journal, its standards, its culture and its team – so that Annals is the clear leader and benchmark for journals in this field."

Professor Tribe added, "I also feel a very deep personal affinity and attachment to Annals. My own personal journey led me from being a specialist economist to a broad social scientist who operates in this ever-fascinating field of tourism. I have always felt that Annals is my home journal – the one whose articles and broad sweep interest me most. So I am very much looking forward to taking up this position and continuing to develop the Social Science nature of Annals."
