Raising Funds to Start Your Business?

Thursday 3 January 2008

The University of Surrey invites all those interested in business to attend a free evening enterprise seminar entitled: Raising Funds to Start Your Business? The seminar will be given by Jonathan Hodrien in Room 01AC02, SCEPTrE, AC Building (see www.surrey.ac.uk/sceptre/contact.htm for directions) on Monday 4 February, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Funding is an issue that crops up even before you start a business but is often hard to obtain at this stage of development. Although sources of finance are widely available, meeting both the conditions and your needs is difficult. Jonathan will explain the different forms of funding available from within and outside the University, where to obtain it, and what to avoid.

Jonathan is the Technology Transfer Manager at Surrey’s Research and Enterprise Support department. His responsibilities include identifying the commercial possibilities of the University’s research and development, and helping small and growing technology-based companies to succeed.

Jonathan trained in microbiology before joining the NatWest Group where he worked in Corporate Banking specialising in the finance of technological innovation. He has an MBA from Sheffield Business School and is a Board Director of some of the University’s spin-out companies.
