The University of Surrey celebrates its diversity of research
Wednesday 16 July 2008
The University of Surrey recently held its first Faculty-wide Festival of Research. The programme for the day featured presentations from staff, students, and two eminent guest speakers: Professor Martin Bennett, the British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge; and Sir Colin Berry, Emeritus Professor of Morbid Anatomy at the Royal London Hospital, knighted in 1993 for his services to science and medicine. There was also a poster competition, with prizes going to four outstanding contributions. The event was very well attended, with circa 150 people coming to learn more about the exciting research that is being undertaken in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.
Professor John Hay, the Dean of Faulty, comments: "It was an exceptionally good day, and the two speakers were particularly brilliant. The Faculty hopes that this will become an annual event and plans are already underway for next year's celebrations."
