Surrey Research Park formalises Korean links
Monday 6 October 2008
The Surrey Research Park continues to build the University of Surrey’s international reputation as a centre of enterprise by formalising its links with the Taedok Science Town in the Korean City of Daejon
The Surrey Research Park has an international reputation as one of the most successful science parks in North West Europe. This reputation has been established through the success of the site in helping to build businesses such as IDBS, Lionhead Studios, and Detica as well as its record in helping companies through the Surrey Technology Centre. The Park offers pre-incubation, full incubation, grow-on space and larger facilities for both specialist parts of larger corporations, as well as smaller technology-based businesses, and the park is proud that 40% of the tenants on the park today have become successful and established themselves since starting life with the help and support of the Technology Centre.
This success has also helped to build international relations between the Park and UNESCO, the United Nations, and members of the International Science Park Association and the World Technopolis Association.
For over 20 years the Park has worked with both the Korean City of Daejon and the other 83 member cities of the World Technopolis Association to help raise the profile of the University of Surrey, the Surrey Research Park, Guildford and the business region in which we operate.
The MOU was proposed by the Mayor of Daejon, which is a city of 1.2 million people.
The University and the Mayor of Guildford Cllr Jennifer Jordan of the Borough of Guildford were pleased to host the Mayor of Daejon, Dr Seoung Hyo Park, and President of the Daejon Technopark Jin Ok Lee’s visit on the 30th September when the agreement was signed with Director of the Park Dr Malcolm Parry OBE.
