Lord Winston joins University Council

The University of Surrey is delighted to announce that Professor Lord Winston is its newest Member of the University Council.

Council is the governing body of the University. External Members of Council are drawn from a wide variety of public life including industry, commerce and academia. Their knowledge, wisdom and experience are critical in enabling the University of Surrey to achieve its strategic vision and goals.

Lord Winston is a distinguished pioneer in reproductive medicine and well-known for presenting many BBC television series, including Superhuman, The Secret Life of Twins, Child of Our Time, Human Instinct, and the BAFTA award-winner The Human Body. He is currently Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, London and has around 300 scientific publications in peer-review journals on reproduction and embryology. He pioneered the development of gynaecological microsurgery in the 1970s and his research has led to internationally adopted improvements in reproductive medicine.

His passion for science is infectious and working with the media he has successfully brought his wealth of knowledge to audiences of all ages. Surrey is very excited about the positive contribution Lord Winston will make to the University and its wider community.
