New degree at the University of Surrey aims to boost interest in Paramedic Practice

Recent media coverage of emergency services across England has highlighted the need to recruit more paramedics in order to cope with the sharp increase of outbreaks of illnesses and emergency situations.
September 2009 will see the launch of the new Paramedic Practice degree at the University of Surrey, which offers students the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required to work as a paramedic.
The degree has been jointly developed by the University of Brighton, the University of Surrey and the South East Coast Ambulance Trust and aims to open up the door to a wide variety of future career opportunities both in and outside of caring professions.
Nuri Pansari, Head of Programmes for Professional Preparation at the University of the Surrey, comments: “We are very excited about this programme. Following the recent increases in calls to emergency services across the country, it is important that universities are able to support the NHS and provide programmes that allow students to study a wide range of different health professions.”
We hope to develop competent, articulate and confident paramedic practitioners who are able to think on their feet and deal with the diverse challenges that they will face on a day to day basis.
The programme will run over three years and students will have the opportunity to work alongside qualified health, social care and emergency care staff during their placement time.
