An Evening with Bill Bryson

The University of Surrey is pleased to announce “An evening with Bill Bryson” as part of the British Science Festival 2009. The event will take place in the School of Management on Wednesday 09 September, 7.00 p.m. - 8.20 p.m.
The popular author and rural campaigner visits the University to share his thoughts on protecting the countryside from litter, travelling the world, and gives an insight into the experiences that inspired his books. Quentin Cooper, presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Material World poses the questions.
Bill Bryson is best known for his humorous takes on travel, the English language and science. Born in the USA, Bill has spent much of his life travelling the world, researching books such as Down Under, I am a stranger here myself and Neither here nor there: Travels in Europe. He won the Aventis Prize for best general science book and the Descartes Prize for science communication for his book A Short History of Nearly Everything. In May 2007, he became President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, establishing the anti-litter campaign ‘Stop the Drop’.
