Reid Strengthens Surrey Storm Defence

Tuesday 6 October 2009

Surrey Storm have signed former England Under 21 defender Hannah Reid strengthening their defensive circle unit further following the signings of England’s Sonia Mkoloma and Geva Mentor.

Reid joins Storm following four seasons with Co-operative Superleague side Loughborough Lightning and was one of Lightning’s most consistent performers last season.  She also won Silver at the World Youth Championships in 2005 as part of the England Under 21 squad.  The 25 year old defender who lives in Kingston and plays for Surrey club The Downs is thrilled to be on board with Storm; “I am really excited to be back in the London and South East Region and part of this new Superleague team under the guidance of Mary Beardwood.  I am looking forward to the competition and challenges that lie ahead as well as training and playing alongside some of the best players in the country”.

Reid, Mkoloma and Mentor will prove a formidable force in defence and Storm still have further signings to announce in the coming weeks as well as a second trial this Thursday where they will make further signings.

Head Coach Mary Beardwood added; “Hannah really stood out at our first trial and we already know what she is capable of having played so well at Loughborough Lightning.  I am thrilled she is joining us and strengthening our defence further”.
