British Institute of Humour Studies networking event...

Friday 23 October 2009

The University of Surrey is forming the ‘British Institute of Humour Studies’ and to take the project forward a two day networking event will take place on the 29 and 30 October. There is no similar institute in the UK and it is anticipated that it will have both a UK-wide and international domain.

As part of the networking event we are inviting academics, from both other UK universities and the University of Surrey, to present on their research interests and expertise in this area.

The event is entirely multidisciplinary in scope, including presentations on topics as diverse as political satire, early modern women’s comedy, fun at work, humour in translation, clowning and performance, stand-up and freedom of expression, humour in narratives of nursing and well-being, and reading cartoon soundtracks.

Attending will provide you with a good opportunity to hear about other research projects, to participate in discussion, hear about the Institute and to register your interest if you wish to become a member. There will also be a roundtable session open to all, including news and information on funding opportunities and future research collaborations.

To attend, or if you have specify dietary requirements or any other requirements, please email Andrea Card or telephone on 01483 683672.
