Professor Colin Grant appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey

The University of Surrey is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Colin Grant as Pro-Vice- Chancellor of International Relations. He took up the post at the University on 01 December 2009.
Professor Grant was formerly Head of the School of Arts, Communication and Humanities at the University of Surrey (2005-2007) and then Dean of International Relations (2007-2009). He is responsible for Surrey’s Global Partnership Network with North Carolina State University, the Universidade de São Paulo, Seoul National University and Nanjing University and leads the South East - India Partnership Network consortium with IISER Pune, India. Professor Grant is also responsible for oversight of the running of the Surrey International Institute, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, in Dalian, PR China.
He has worked at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (1990-1993, 1998-2005) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1995-1998). After taking a PhD in East German literature and literary theory, Professor Grant was a postdoctoral fellow in the LUMIS-Institut, Universität/Gesamthochschule Siegen (Germany) and has devoted his research career to the philosophy of communication, a field in which he has published nine books.
Professor Grant is a fluent writer and speaker of French, German and Portuguese and a learner of Chinese and Korean.
