Students get a boost with cheaper fees

Thursday 3 December 2009

Budding accountants have been given a boost by the major professional body in accounting.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA) is offering membership to Surrey Accounting & Financial Management students for a knock down price of £20.

This is an exclusive arrangement that has come about as a result of a close and longstanding relationship between CIMA and the University of Surrey’s School of Management.

The arrangement about membership fees allows students on the Accounting and Financial Management programme to get CIMA membership for only £20.

Normally the fees for CIMA for a four-year study programme would cost £420.

Hans van der Heijden, Professor of Management Information Systems, said: “This discount is a real advantage for the students studying at Surrey and reflects the very good relationship we have with CIMA and other professional organisations.”

Students on the programme are already able to sit CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting assessments and examinations at the CIMA Managerial level during the optional professional training year.

Catherine Fogg, who is currently on her work placement year, was the first student to pass the CIMA CBA level.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants is the world’s leading and largest professional body of Management Accountants, with 171,000 members and students operating in 165 countries.
