Lifting the Mask on the Beijing Opera

From Tuesday 20 January to Thursday 5 February there will be exhibition of work by artist Eva Yip in the Lewis Elton Gallery at the University of Surrey. A series of paper sculptures by the artist depicts the luxurious costumes and elaborate face painting of some of the most well-known and loved characters from Chinese Opera.
o announce the opening of the exhibition the Chinese Association of Woking performed a tradition Lion Dance.
Commencing at the Victoria and Albert Museum in February 2007, the exhibition has previously toured to the Dome Complex, Brighton and Southampton City Art Gallery. Proceeds from the sale of Eva's work will be donated to the Red Cross for the Chinese Earthquake Fund. Examples of the artists work can be viewed at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiwahyip
The Lewis Elton Gallery opening hours are: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and by prior appointment at weekends.
