Important Announcement from the Vice Chancellor

Monday 2 February 2009

The very unusual weather over the past 24 hours has continued to cause widespread disruption to roads and public transport systems in Surrey with the result that all but essential services are closed across the County. We have just heard that all Surrey Schools will remain closed tomorrow and the latest weather forecasts are for more severe weather.

The state of campus and research park roads is reasonably good at the moment but car parks and many footpaths remain covered by around 600 mm of snow. This is despite the very determined and dedicated efforts from our ground staff who have been working extremely hard over the past 24 hours. We expect that car park capacity will be severely limited tomorrow and that access to campus will be difficult. We are therefore asking staff who are not required for preparing the campus for normal operations and students not to attempt to make the journey in tomorrow.

Service support staff who are essential to restoring normal operations or who are supporting students in catering and accommodation etc are asked to attend tomorrow providing it is safe for them to do so.

We intend to commence normal operations Wednesday 4th January. Please do however continue to monitor the University home page for announcements.
