National Science & Engineering Week 2009 comes to Surrey
Thursday 12 February 2009
The Educational Liaison Centre at the University of Surrey is helping to ensure that a varied contribution is made to National Science & Engineering week this year. The week aims to celebrate science and engineering and their importance in our lives. A programme of four evening lectures for the wider public are being hosted at the University throughout the week.
On Monday 09 March there will be two events. Professor Dave Povey and colleagues will make a presentation on Modern Forensics covering explosive, ballistics and DNA profiling. Separately, Lord May of Oxford will discuss how best to manage the creativity behind science research. On Wednesday 11 March Professor Jim Al-Khalili, author and broadcaster, will chair a panel of experts to debate the changing public attitude to science. On Thursday 12 March the topic will be whether the demands on resources of the computer industry can ever be made environmentally-friendly and achieve 'Green IT'.
Places are free but pre-booking is required. Contact the Educational Liaison Centre by E-mail to elc@surrey.ac.uk or phone 01483 689376. All talks will be held in the School of Management Lecture Theatre on the Stag Hill Campus in Guildford.
Science & Engineering Week is coordinated nationally by the British Science Association in partnership with the Engineering and Technology Board and is funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). An on-line programme of events can be found at www.nsew.org.uk
