Media Invitation: Open Innovation in Security
Wednesday 18 March 2009
Members of the media are cordially invited to the Open Innovation in Security event hosted by the University of Surrey, in association with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
The aim of the event is to help foster open innovation between Surrey, NPL and industry. During the event, the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Surrey and NPL will present overviews and demonstrations of new developments in security technologies currently being researched in the Department of Computing, Centre for Communications Systems Research (CCSR), the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) and at NPL. There will also be networking opportunities and a chance to hear about how to engage with the University for research and knowledge transfer.
The event will take place on Wednesday 1 April 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the Oak Suite, University of Surrey, continuing through until an early evening drinks reception. Highlights of the afternoon include two keynote addresses; Professor Chris Firth, Chief Scientist of Thales, and Nigel Jones, Director of the Cyber Security Knowledge Transfer Network; and demonstrations will include a new trustworthy electronic voting system, digital watermarking techniques, steganography, security in satellite network protocols, biometrics and surveillance.
This event is linked to the Crime and Justice network at Surrey; an initiative that offers networking opportunities for private, voluntary and public sector Crime, Justice and Security Practitioners. It is anticipated that those engaging with the network will have access to a database offering an ongoing resource enabling information exchange, networking and collaboration amongst network members.
88% of Surrey's research activity was rated either 'world class or 'internationally recognised' in the recent 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). This includes 4 areas of research activity in the top 10 and a total of 9 areas ranked in the top 20.
