Dr Indarjit Singh CBE speaks at the University of Surrey
Thursday 7 May 2009
The University of Surrey was delighted to host a talk last week by Dr. Indarjit Singh CBE, a regular contributor to both BBC Radio 4's Thought for the Day and BBC Radio 2’s Pause for Thought, and a Patron of the University’s Multi-Faith Centre project. Entitled ‘The Relevance of Sikhism in the 21st Century’, his talk focussed on contemporary Sikhism and where it stands as a religion today.
His well-received talk started with a brief history of Sikhism and how it came into existence over 500 years ago and went on to cover contemporary issues such as the link between Sikhism and other faiths and the importance today of working towards greater inter-faith understanding. It was followed by a lively question and answer session.
As a Patron, Dr Singh is a supporter of plans to build a Multi-Faith Centre at the University. A campaign is currently underway to raise the £7 million required to build the Centre. For more information please visit www.surrey.ac.uk/multifaithcentre
