World nutrition experts gather for annual symposium

Thursday 18 June 2009

Over 400 nutritionists from around the world will gather at the University of Surrey from 29 June until 2 July 2009 for the Annual Summer Meeting of the Nutrition Society.

The meeting will focus on the topical problems of overnutrition and undernutrition. Although we are eating too much food in developed countries, there are still many circumstances where people do not get enough to eat. The opening keynote speaker, Professor Barbara Rolls from Pennsylvania State University, USA, a world expert will give an update on dietary strategies for the prevention and treatment of obesity.

The Nutrition Society was established in 1941 ‘to advance the scientific study of nutrition and its application to the maintenance of human and animal health’. Highly regarded by the scientific community, the Society is the largest learned society for nutrition in Europe. Membership is international and open to anyone with an interest in nutrition. The Society holds its annual meeting in a different location in the UK or Ireland every year.

The scientific meeting is for members, but there is a free public event on food intolerance on the evening of Monday 29 June 2009.
