Vicki Hansford, a sports development officer at the University of Surrey, clinched gold at the World Cup rowing event in Munich at the weekend.
Vicki, a bronze medallist at the Beijing Paralympics, went further in Germany winning gold in the mixed adaptive coxed four with her crew of James Roe, Dave Smith, Naomi Riches and cox Rhiannon Jones.
Vicki said of her victory: "We couldn't have executed the race better. I'm so excited because this is such a strong crew and we've really moved forward".As well as being a sports development officer at the University of Surrey, Vicki Hansford is an ambassador of the new Surrey Sports Park, a multi-million pound development which is due to open early in 2010 and will be one of the premier training facilities ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
Vicki, who started rowing in 2006, received an honorary degree from the University of Surrey on Wednesday June 24.
At her first World Championships in Eton in 2006 Vicki became World Champion in the LTA mixed coxed four. The following year she won a silver medal at the World Championships in Munich in the same event.
