Should Gordon Brown resign and who should replace him?

Monday 6 July 2009

‘Should Gordon Brown resign and who should replace him?’ - This was just one of the questions asked by Yr 10, 11 and 12 at the Annual Politics Question Time event recently held at the University of Surrey. Students challenged a panel of politicians and experts on issues that covered the conflict in Afghanistan, the growing crisis in Iran as well as on party politics and issues around elections.

The aim of the event was to give young people a taster of what a university is like, to develop their interest in politics and encourage them to question what people tell them, a skill required at university.

The panel consisted of Sue Doughty (Liberal Democrats), Tim Shand (Labour Party), Tony Rooth (Conservative Party), Andrew Moncreiff (UKIP), Jonathan Essex (Green Party) and Sir Michael Aaronson (Visiting Honorary Professor at the University).

The event was organised by the Department of Political, International and Policy Studies. It was attended by six schools: Royal Grammar School, Farnborough Sixth Form College, Coloma Convent Girls School, Kelsey Park Sports College, Guildford High School and The Royal School.
