Surrey Sports Park has announced the opening date of its highly anticipated world-class sports facility. The University of Surrey owned multi-million pound sports complex will open its doors in Guildford on Monday 19 April, 2010.

The Surrey Sports Park has already been registered as a suitable training venue for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, and will be one of the country’s premier training, sporting and recreational facilities.

Surrey Sports Park, Chief Executive, Jason Harborow, said, “We are delighted to announce the opening date for the Surrey Sports Park as 19 April, 2010. I truly believe the day will be a defining date for sport, not just in Surrey, but in the UK and further afield.

“The official opening is the culmination of years of effort and investment by the University of Surrey, and we are close to realising a world-class sporting vision. We can’t wait to get started, and I personally invite you all to join us in a true celebration of sport in April.”

More details of an official grand opening ceremony are set to be announced, with Surrey Sports Park’s star cast of sporting ambassadors including Alec Stewart, Mark Foster, and Gail Emms expected to help launch the state-of-the-art sports centre.

Prior to the opening date, Surrey Sports Park has already secured a number of major sporting events and team partnerships, including Co-operative Netball Superleague franchise, Surrey Storm, British Basketball League team, Guildford Heat and regionally renowned Guildford City Swimming Club.

The Sports Park’s debut year will also see it host its first major international event after just a couple of months, with the 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup (WRWC) scheduled to take place in August and September of this year.

Membership packages are now on sale for Surrey’s flagship sports park, with exclusive, VIP ‘500 Club’ founder memberships available to the first 500 members at a reduced rate.
