“Sustainable Water & Sanitation for All”
Conference and Discussion Forum - 29-30 June 2010
The University of Surrey cordially invites members of the media to a selected audience, conference and discussion forum at the Stag Hill campus on 29-30th June 2010. It builds upon 20 years of research and training of water professionals at Surrey engaged in developing world water and sanitation. The University continues to work with aid and health agencies such as OXFAM, Dfid and the World Health Organisation.
The event aims to share Surrey's current research and knowledge transfer activities in the field of sustainable water and sanitation for developing world and disaster relief applications and to support the identification of future research and knowledge transfer needs. It is expected to be of interest to research funders, NGOs, aid/development agencies and water professionals from regulators and legislators to engineers, scientists and public health workers.
The programme starts on Tuesday 29 June with the option of an afternoon technical visit to the OXFAM and Thames Water sponsored pilot plant and training facility followed by a networking reception, poster displays and dinner. Wednesday 30 June programme includes; key note overviews, short presentations on projects funded at Surrey by the 2007 EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Challenge and a moderated panel discussion on future research, knowledge transfer and training needs.
Planned topics include:-
- developing new international legal frameworks for sharing trans-boundary groundwater resources
- identifying and developing appropriate and sustainable water treatment and sewerage technologies using local resources in Africa and South America
- lower cost, lower carbon, desalination technologies
- potential for new earth observation techniques for water and targeting disaster relief
