Descent of the Angel
By Kate Lawrence

Watching over the residents of Guildford, surveying the land, the angel atop Guildford Cathedral serves as a glorious wind vane and golden guardian. Gathering the breath of the wind, she unfurls her wings, swooping and dancing to connect sky and land in her search for a lost soul to deliver to paradise. In this glorious piece of vertical dance, the angel will descend and dance high above the watching audience below.

Cascade
Keeping your feet on dry land

Surging onto the outdoor street festival scene for 2010 is Cascade, Motionhouse’s newly commissioned piece that uses movement and aerial skills to combine the best of dance and flying in an engaging and humorous spectacle that looks at our lives in relation to water. Set on a submerged house amidst rising flood waters Cascade is a thrilling and enthralling look at one family’s scramble to keep their heads above water and their feet on dry land! A company of fabulous dancers balance, fall, slide and tumble their way upwards as they ascend through the levels of their domestic life and arrive adrift on an endlessly disappearing island. Cascade is an adventure in the everyday, in which the presence of water becomes more pressing and more insistently evident, until it sweeps all before it.

Commissioned by the Department of Dance, Film and Theatre.
