Volunteers needed to help prostate cancer research
Thursday 27 May 2010
Local men who have had a prostate cancer test in the last 12 months with a normal result are being asked to make a valuable contribution to prostate cancer research by helping scientists tackle the killer disease.
All that is required is a simple urine sample donation. Researchers at the University of Surrey are working on a new way of detecting prostate cancer by a simple urine test.
The research team need volunteers to help, who may have had the PSA prostate cancer blood test as part of a well man screen or male MOT at their GP surgery or in a clinic within the last 12 months and the result was negative (i.e. a normal PSA reading of less than 4). Volunteers would need to give a simple urine sample which would be posted in a prepared stamped addressed package which would be provided by the team of researchers.
All volunteers will remain anonymous and confidentiality will be maintained. For further information please contact the research team at the University: Sarah Stone by telephone 01483 688591 or email: s.stone@surrey.ac.uk
