Workshop to improve nutrition advice for fitness trainers

Experts in diet and nutrition are holding a special training day for exercise professionals who want to be at the cutting edge of nutrition and nutritional assessment techniques for the benefit of their clients.

Diet and nutrition are a vital part of any successful exercise programme and the nutritional needs of every individual are different. Knowing how to assess these needs and monitor changes during an exercise programme is essential to give appropriate nutritional guidance.

University of Surrey specialists including Registered Dieticians, sports nutritionists and exercise physiologists are running a one-day workshop for people in the fitness industry to show them how to help their clients to achieve their maximum potential while training. The Nutritional Assessment for Exercise Professionals workshop will include a series of presentations, demonstrations and practical sessions covering the following:
• Body composition and anthropometry (theory and practical)
• Fuel use and the nutritional demands of exercise
• Appropriate role of sports nutrition products and ergogenic aids
• Use and limitations of dietary assessment methods
• Use of software for nutritional analysis
• Designing and implementing programmes of nutritional assessment in your own fitness and exercise setting
