Discover your inner rabbit

Monday 7 February 2011

The Chinese Students and Scholars Association is celebrating the Chinese New Year (the Year of the Rabbit) with an evening of song, dance, and sketches at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

The event will be attended by the Mayor of Guildford, representatives from the Chinese Embassy and senior university staff.

The event takes place on Sunday 20 February 2011 (7.00pm – 9.30pm). It will feature a mix of traditional and contemporary performances – including folk dances, pop songs, opera and skits – from students at the Universities of Surrey and Portsmouth and Kingston University London.

Event organiser Long Xu says: “The event is important to us because it gives Chinese students in the south of England an opportunity to share our cultural arts and New Year celebrations with the local community at a time when we can’t be at home with our families."

2011 is the Year of the Metal Rabbit, the fourth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Rabbits are associated with happiness and good fortune.

Tickets for the Chinese New Year event cost between £10 and £12 depending on where you sit in the theatre.
