University voted most welcoming in the UK by students

Thursday 24 February 2011

Students at the University of Surrey get the best support and help of any across the UK on their arrival, according to a new survey. Home students marked Surrey as the Best in the UK in terms of Overall Satisfaction for the Arrival Experience in the i-graduate survey of universities.

This includes accommodation, official welcome, internet access, social activities and speed of response to problems and enquiries.

At Surrey, each student gets an online introduction to the university as well which they can view before they arrive on campus to start the next exciting part of their lives.

International students' responses placed Surrey at 5th in terms of Overall Satisfaction for the Arrival Experience.

David Dickinson, Director of Student Care Services, said: “In overall terms, we have an exceptionally good approach to welcome and orientation of our new students and one we can be justifiably proud of.

“Joining a university can be a daunting process for some students and we try to make the experience as pleasurable and welcoming as possible. Many of our staff get involved in Welcome Week by volunteering to show students around and allay any concerns they may have. We are pleased our efforts have been recognised by students.”
