An Evening of Kathak Dance at the University of Surrey
PATS Dance Studio, University of Surrey, Wednesday 23 March, 7:30 p.m.
On Wednesday 23 March Amina Khayyan Dance Company will present an evening of Kathak Dance, the classical dance of North India, with live musical accompaniments at the University of Surrey’s PATS Dance Studio. Through the use of costume, body, space and music, Amina will incorporate the magic of Kathak through ancient and classical dance vocabulary, adding to it a modern global influence.
Incorporating Nritta (pure dance) and Nritya (expression through narrative), the music and dance will take you on a memorable journey, accompanied by an ensemble of highly respected musicians. Come to the University of Surrey’s PATS Dance Studio and experience the beauty and fluidity of this ancient dance tradition, as Amina Khayyan unites this traditional dance vocabulary with modern influences.
A celebration of storytelling, costume, music and dance, a Kathak show always entices the audience into the story with a beautiful range of movement vocabulary. Amina Khayyan, who has been dancing Kathak since 1992, has been described as both ‘moving with spellbinding intensity’ (Pulse) and ‘elegant and serene’ (Ballet Dance Magazine).
Amina’s Khayyam’s performance of One will be supported by ROOPAK, featuring University of Surrey alumni Iris Chan, Divneet Peach and Lucy Teed, who since graduating, are training professionally and performing in Kathak.
Tickets can be booked for the performance at the University of Surrey on Wednesday 23rd March via the University Box Office, Mon-Fri 9am-7pm on 01483 686 876 or boxoffice@surrey.ac.uk. Tickets are £10 full, £5 students. This evening of Kathak Dance will be performed in the PATS Dance Studio on the University of Surrey’s Stag Hill Campus, on Wednesday 23 March at 7:30 p.m. For more information please visit www.surrey.ac.uk/arts/dance, www.aminakhayyam.com or call the University Box Office.
