Pop Star and Physics Professor - a chance to meet the UK’s most famous scientist
Monday 9 May 2011
The country’s most famous scientist Brian Cox is to visit the University of Surrey for an evening of fascinating debate.
Professor Brian Cox has become a media sensation with appearances on chat shows and presenting his primetime BBC science series. He famously was in a pop band called D:Ream in the 1990s and now is a Professor of Physics.
He will visit the university on Wednesday May 25 to be questioned by Surrey’s own TV science presenter, Professor of Physics Jim Al-Khalili.
Jim will talk about various subjects with Brian Cox including his life and career to date. Members of the audience will also be able to submit their own questions, a selection of which will be asked after the interview.
Jim, who has presented several BBC series himself and is a champion of bringing complex and fascinating areas of science to a wider audience, said: “Brian has made more people enthusiastic about science than anyone in a generation. I am sure this will be a hugely entertaining evening.
“The last time I had Brian Cox as my guest at an event in Surrey was four years ago when he was a panellist at my Guildford Cathedral debate on science and religion.
“Today, he is a huge celebrity and rightly deserves all the plaudits he is currently receiving. I am very excited about having him back and talking to him about his life, his work in television and how he is coping, as an academic scientist, with his massive celebrity status.“
