University to host Surrey Skills Fair for Surrey school students
Tuesday 5 February 2013
Two thousand teenagers are due to attend the Surrey Skills Fair 2013 which will be held at the University of Surrey to help them choose the right courses and careers for their futures.
The event will take place at the University’s Surrey Sports Park on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 February.
It is designed to help Year 9 students from across Surrey at a crucial time when they are due to choose their subject options for GCSE.
The Skills Fair, held for the second year running at the University, will provide a broad range of different ideas and routes to influence the decisions young people make in their school and personal lives and help them better prepare for the world of work.
More than 45 exhibitors will attend including Further and Higher Education, alternative training providers and a wide variety of companies and industries.
Each exhibitor is encouraged to bring an interactive activity, where appropriate, to help young people see the skills they may need in the future. They will also get the chance to talk to students, undergraduates and industry representatives.
There will be stands representing commerce and industry ranging from IT to Engineering and from Consumer Products to the Medical sectors. Companies exhibiting include: IBM, BP, Classroom Medics, Logica, Deloitte, Air Products and Park Plaza Hotels.
The event, which hosts 500 students per session will run from 10am to 2.30pm each day.
