ExxonMobil Excellence in Teaching Awards 2009

At an award dinner on 4th December Dr Alan Packwood of the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences, Division of Mechanical, Medical & Aerospace Engineering was awarded a prize of £10,000 for excellence in teaching.
In addition to the cash prize there will also be opportunity to access further company support with an in-kind value of £40,000, this includes priority for graduate recruitment; priority for undergraduate work placements; access to the most up-to-date case study material and invitations for site visits. The award is given to individuals who have distinguished themselves within their peer group by showing a strong and continuing commitment to teaching, professional activities, promoting engineering as a rewarding and creative career, establishing industrial-academic links and other activities which ultimately ensure the output of top quality graduate engineers. Dr Packwood has made a significant contribution in these areas including innovative teaching methods, promoting engineering through Concorde and Formula 1 projects at Brooklands Museum, enhancing student links with Industry as Senior Professional Training tutor and in his role as Programme Director of our Mechanical and Medical Undergraduate programmes. He was one of five UK winners to receive the award this year and the Faculty greatly looks forward to partnering with ExxonMobil in the coming year, and fostering stronger links especially in the areas of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering.
