This prize is awarded  for Prof Watt's significant contribution to the field of surface science over an extended period. His work on a non-toxic organosilane pre-treatment for bonded aluminium structures to replace environmentally unfriendly Cr based pre-treatments was one of a number of aspects of his work cited. Surrey is the only laboratory that has received this award twice, Prof Jim Castle was the recipient a few years ago.
