Successful unveiling of the STAG’11

Monday 6 June 2011

On Wednesday 1st June, the Formula Student team celebrated with guests, friends and supporters the launch of their new Formula Student racing car – the STAG’11. This year’s racing car is an evolution from the 2010 car – it is lighter, stronger and more powerful. Over the next six weeks, the Surrey University Racing Technology and Engineering Solutions (SURTES) team will undertake extensive testing of the STAG’11 in and around the campus of the University of Surrey to be in a strong position to do extremely well in the competition, which will be held at the Silverstone racetrack on 13-17 July. The Surrey Advertiser has an article on the car launch.

2011 Formula Student Car

Formula Student is run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and is Europe’s biggest student motorsport event. It is in its 14th year and is open to university teams around the world. Its Patron is Ross Brawn, Team Principal, MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One Team. FS usually forms part of the students‟ academic studies, and culminates in a competition where teams from all over the world come together to race and compete against each other. Restrictions are placed on the car frame and engine so the students’ knowledge, creativity, and imagination are tested.

Students (from any discipline) interested in getting involved in the Formula Student project please contact either the Formula Student Society (ussu.formulastudent@surrey.ac.uk) or Dr Patrick Gruber (p.gruber@surrey.ac.uk).
