SAGE ANNOUNCES NEW EDITOR OF THE JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SCIENCE
Los Angeles, CA (June 23rd, 2011) – SAGE, the world’s leading independent academic and professional publisher, today announced the retirement of the current Editor-in-Chief of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, Professor Matthew Cartmell from the University of Glasgow. The new Editor-in-Chief will be Professor John Chew from the University of Surrey.
The Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science advances the understanding of both the fundamentals of engineering science and its application to the solution of challenges and problems in engineering, dedicated to the publication of high quality papers on all aspects of mechanical engineering science. It represents one of the oldest parts of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the first issue being published under the guidance of a distinguished Editorial Board in June 1959.
“I have very much enjoyed my association with the Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science since taking over as Editor from Professor Dowson,” said outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Professor Matthew Cartmell. “I believe that new strategies for journal development, under the able guidance of my successor, Professor John Chew, will ensure that JMES remains in this unique and pre-eminent position within the field of Mechanical Engineering Science. I wish the Journal, its staff at SAGE, its authors, and all its readers the very best for the future. ‘
New Editor-in-Chief Professor John Chew CEng, FRAeS, FASME joined the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science in 2006, became an associate editor in 2009, and was guest editor for the special section on “Engineering in a Changing Climate” in 2010 before becoming Editor-in-Chief in July 2011. He has been Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Surrey since April 2000 and from 2008 has lead the Fluids and Vehicles research in the Division of Mechanical, Medical and Aerospace Engineering. He has been involved in many collaborative projects, is a consultant to Rolls-Royce, a member of the ASME IGTI Turbomachinery and Heat Transfer Committees, and teaches students on the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering degree programmes at Surrey.
“It is an honour to take over as Editor of the Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science. In this new role, I look forward to continuing to work with the Editorial Board and publishing team as we further develop the journal.” said Professor John Chew. “As the flagship journal in the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers the JMES has a great heritage and excellent prospects. The JMES will continue to serve the Engineering profession at an international level by disseminating and archiving important advances in fundamental engineering science and its applications.”
