MMA students finalists in the IMechE 24th Annual Medical Engineering Student Project Competition

Theresa Royles, a graduate of the MSc in Biomedical Engineering, and Samantha Simons, MEng Medical Engineering student, made the final three in the Corin Group Prize for Best Healthcare Technology Project – IMechE 24th Annual Medical Engineering Student Project Competition that took place at the IMechE Headquarters in London on 29th February 2012.
Theresa Royles submitted her MSc project work on “Novel Signal Processing of Photoplethysmography Signals for Comparison of Electrocardiography and Photoplethysmography derived Heart Rate Variability Data and Improving the Accuracy of Pulse Transit Time Measurement”, co-supervised by Dr Steve Perring (Poole Hospital) and Dr Daniel Abásolo (University of Surrey). Samantha Simons’ entry was on “Quadratic Sample Entropy Analysis of the Electroencephalogram in Alzheimer’s Disease”, part of her MEng Final Year Project under the supervision of Dr Daniel Abásolo (University of Surrey).
The Corin group prize for best sports, healthcare and wellbeing technology project was open to recent graduates, third/fourth year undergraduates and taught Masters degree students, who have completed or are working on a project in sports, healthcare or wellbeing technology.
