Racing Cars at the University of Surrey

Thursday 8 March 2012

Team SURTES, the University of Surrey’s Formula Student team, will be holding an Open Day on Wednesday 28th March between midday and 8pm in BB00 (the old Amigos). This will be an opportunity for students, staff, and industry alike, to come and speak with the team, see what we do, and hear our plans for the future.

Formula Student is Europe's most established educational motorsport competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Teams from institutions around the world design, manufacture, and race a single-seat race car. There are a number of competitions around the world where Formula Student takes place including the UK, Italy, USA, Australia, and Germany.
Team SURTES is the University of Surrey’s in-house racing team; run by mostly engineering and business students with university academic and technical staff providing guidance. Every year Team SURTES aim to use all of their accumulated knowledge and experience to design and manufacture ever lighter, more powerful racing cars to compete in the Formula Student Competition. This year, Team SURTES will be competing at the UK event at Silverstone Race Circuit, the home of British motorsport, in July.
Formula Student at the University of Surrey is an ideal platform for students interested in cutting-edge technology as it encourages them to design, manufacture and test a single-seat racing car. Additionally the competition also provides the opportunity for students to develop in the business, finance, and marketing elements of engineering.
So, if you would like to find out more, then pop-in to the Vehicle Lab in BB00 on March 28th at any time between midday and 8pm. Members of the team will be on-hand all afternoon to answer your questions and provide you with further information about Formula Student and Team SURTES.
