Research

The research interests in the Department cover a wide range of areas, including fundamental studies in Fluid Dynamics, Materials and Structures, and applied studies in Aerodynamics, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Flows, Structural Integrity and Vehicle Engineering. Research in the Department is organised into a number of research groups, but there are many overlaps and links between these:

Collaboration with industry and other end-users of research is a strong theme, with the Department leading activities in a Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre, the National Environmental Research Council supported Environmental Flow Research Centre and the Surrey Materials Institute. We also collaborate closely with colleagues in other disciplines through research centres such as the Surrey Space Centre, and the Advanced Technology Institute.
