Professional Training Year
We have long established links with major industry players, which is one of the reasons our undergraduates are some of the most employable in the country. Our professional training year helps you to gain the experience you need to stand out from the crowd, and the opportunity to gain graduate job offers from your placement companies.
All of our BEng and MEng programmes offer the optional placement year. It provides a valuable experience in a real job, gaining a real taste of industry that you cannot learn in a lecture or lab, as well as a salary of around £14,500 p.a.
The enhanced interpersonal and management skills you will also learn during the year are highly valued by employers and will provide you with an even greater head start in the jobs market.
The year also counts as experience towards becoming a Chartered Engineer by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
We provide dedicated support to help you find and apply for a placement position, as well as visits during your placement to make sure you are gaining the experience you need in a supportive environment Our success rate in placing students is excellent, and we have many overseas placements.
