Undergraduate Support

We aim to provide the best support for our students so that they can achieve their potential.  This includes support with studies through dedicated academic staff through to a range of support services across the campus.

Academic Support

The staff on our undergraduate programmes use a range of teaching methods and facilities to support learning, including lectures, practical sessions, example classes and tutorials.

We have our own dedicated staff looking after general undergraduate enquiries, placements and exams, making sure that there is always someone available to help.  This is supplemented by central facilities, such as the Student Personal Learning and Study Hub (SPLASH), which provides anything from group study facilities to help with writing from a Royal Literary Fellow.

When you are finishing your degree and you are thinking of your first job, then our careers service can provide a range of resources from interview practice to links with graduate employers.  This service can also be used after you have graduated should you fancy a change in job or career.

Health, Well-being and Life

The University has extensive support facilities for the everyday essentials.  This includes its own health centre, counselling service, student advice service, chaplaincy and accommodation service.  We have a post office, book shop, laundry, a bank and several cash machines, as well as numerous restaurants and places to relax.  For physical wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle you can benefit from our £36m world-class Surrey Sports Park facilities.

Student Society's and Clubs

The Department's Student Societies aim to bring students together and encourage greater interaction through organising social and sporting activities, such as the Annual Dinner Dance or the MechSoc Monopoly Board Pub Crawl.

The societies are also intended as a voice for students, allowing them to have their say and give their views on the way the programmes are run. For the latest information about events and news, see the MechSoc website.

Social activities on campus are also organised by the Students' Union. The Union building has bars and restaurants and is a good place for between-lecture breaks with friends. The Union Ents Officer organises DJs, college-circuit bands and comics.

There are more than fifty sports clubs and other societies in the Union. They cater for the diversity of social, cultural and religious interests that reflect the variety of our student population. To find out more see the Student's Union website.
