Dr Jeremy Barham, internationally renowned Mahler scholar, is involved in many Mahler anniversary projects in 2010 and 2011

Dr Jeremy Barham is giving a series of pre-concert talks for the London Philharmonic Orchestra this season at the Royal Festival Hall, as part of the commemmoration of the 150th anniversary of Mahler's birth (2010) and the centenary of his death (2011).

Jeremy, editor of The Cambridge Companion to Mahler, Perspectives on Gustav Mahler (Ashgate), Gustav Mahler. New Insights into his Life, Times and Work (Ashgate), and author of a forthcoming monograph on the composer's cultural significance (Indiana University Press), is also organizing a Mahler Centenary Conference, entitled 'Mahler: Contemporary of the Past?', to be held July 7-9 2011, at the University of Surrey, the opening day of which falls on the composer's 151st birthday. The conference will include professional performances of Mahler's music, an art exhibition and a sound installation, as well as papers and discussions led by the world's leading Mahler authorities.
