Biography

Abigail has performed as a soloist and in chamber music concerts worldwide. Her discography includes chamber music programmes for the French label Selena, Michael Wolpe's flute concerto (Memus publication), as well as works written by Andre Hajdu, and Yinam Leef. In Paris, Abigail founded and directed the eleven players Ensemble Musaïcum group which performed chamber music for various instrumental combinations, and was known for its innovative and unusual programming.

Research Interests

Abigail’s research interests include changes in 20th-century performance style, expressivity in performance and historical recordings as an inspirational source. Abigail completed her PhD at King’s College London in 2010. The thesis examines the changes of flute performance style on 78rpm recordings, focusing on tone qualities and expressivity in performance. The research was awarded the AVI Fellowship and the Edison Fellowship of the British Library Sound Archive. Abigail is Fellow Commoner at Clare Hall in Cambridge, and artistic director of the College’s Intimate Engagements chamber-music concert series.

In 2011, Abigail was appointed Research Fellow at the Department of Music & Sound Recording, at the University of Surrey, and Research Director of the Musical Expression in Performance Research Institute (MEPRIUS), under the auspices of the Symphonova Project.

Starting in 2012 Abigail will also be Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Musical Research (IMR), School of Advanced study, University of London.
