Biography
Steve Browning studied bass trombone and composition at the Royal College of Music, winning the coveted Cobbett & Hurlstone prize for chamber music composition in his final year.
At the start of his career he worked as a performer, initially in the early music field (including several performances in the Purcell Room on the South Bank), moving later into orchestral freelancing. He spent a period involved in instrumental brass teaching, having had a number of students progress to study at the major music colleges. He was until recently the sectional coach for the heavy brass section of the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra.
Through his interest in composition, he became actively involved in all aspects of music technology as the technology began to become generally available in the late nineteen eighties. His particular interest in this area is sequencing and sampling and their application as tools in composing.
Since 2000 he has taught music technology and musicianship skills in Further Education and more recently in Higher Education. He has worked as a senior A level examiner in music technology, having been principal examiner for the composition paper from 2007 to 2010.
He studied for his Masters degree at the University of Surrey, specialising in composition.
