Biography
Toby joined the IoSR in 2011 after graduating from the University of York with a MEng in Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems. Funded by the BBC and EPSRC, Toby is researching audio un-mixing, developing techniques for dealing separately with the different sounds mixed into broadcast material.
Currently Toby is working to create a comparative study of audio un-mixing techniques. Working through other people’s writings to find what ideas have been tested already and what their strengths and weaknesses are. By the summer of 2012 an experiment will have been designed and completed to verify which current approach holds the most promise.
A live sound engineer since a young age, Toby has done live sound work everywhere from festivals to churches and theatres, he is a student member of the Audio Engineering Society. In his spare time Toby enjoys photography and playing his guitar. Toby lives in Guildford with his wife Rhiannon.
