Welcome to the Survey
Now in its ninth year, the NSS is a nationally recognised, independent annual survey that offers final-year undergraduates the chance to give their feedback on their time at Surrey.
As a Surrey student, you're an expert on life as a Surrey undergraduate – so your experience and opinions are vital. That's why we would love to hear your feedback on these eight key areas: Teaching on my Course, Assessment and Feedback, Academic Support, Organisation and Management, Learning Resources, Personal Development, Overall Satisfaction, Satisfaction with the Students' Union.
The survey runs from 4 February - 30 April, and takes just five minutes to fill in. And as a thank you for completing the survey, we're offering a £3.50 voucher to spend at Stag Hill, Manor Park and Surrey Sports Park campuses.

The how and the why
Why should I fill in the survey?
You are the experts on being a student here. Your experiences and opinions are important to us. Survey results will be used by the University and the Students' Union for the benefit of current and future students.
Show you're proud of Surrey!
Help us to meet the really ambitious target we've set ourselves – to be one of the very best universities around.
-
Focus on feedback
All student feedback is recognised at Surrey. Here are just some of the changes we've made in response to the NSS survey:
-
I.T. support. 24/7
We've extended the opening hours on our Helpdesk and provided an IT support phone line, available 24/7 – so we're here to help solve your IT headaches whenever you need us.
-
We listened
We've introduced a system that shows you where there are computers free in the University's Library. Our information screens are updated every two minutes with the latest availability, and you can access the info with your mobile phone too.
-
Surrey learns
We've created more than 700 reading lists, available through your modules on SurreyLearn - so you can find essential books, link to online articles and e-books, find recommended or background reading, read book previews and check the availability of copies in the Library.
-
Lending a hand
We now have 'roving' library helpers on all the floors, recognisable by their bright green lanyards – feel free to stop and ask them for help at any time. There are support points too, such as our 'Ask Me' desk for queries and resources, as well as drop-in sessions every weekday, 11am-3pm, when you can get extra help with searching and referencing.
-
More choice? No problem.
We've developed more workshops for particular groups of students - there's a new range of sessions on final year dissertations and projects for example, and we're working even more closely with academic staff to ensure that our workshops are as relevant as possible. There's a new procedure for booking places too, making it much easier to register.
-
Virtually perfect
The University's new Virtual Learning Environment, SurreyLearn, was successfully launched this academic year, providing you with better access to information and guidance related to programmes and modules, as well as activities and interactive materials to support your learning. These can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection as well as mobile devices such as smart phones.
-
Easier access
Our new Student Services Centre in September 2012 makes it easier, simpler and faster for you to access the services and support you need from the University. The Centre provides a single place to get help on a wide range of issues, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff pride themselves in offering positive solutions, no matter the query – and if they can't answer it, they'll know who can.
You can contact the Centre at: surrey.ac.uk/ask; ask@surrey.ac.uk; or 01483 686868.
-
We're on a mission
...to revamp your learning environment. So we've redecorated and refurbished a wide selection of teaching facilities across the campus, from Lewis Carroll to Robert Boyle to the Duke of Kent building and Austin Pearce, installed new audio visual systems and lighting, carried out a refurbishment programme in all FEPS IT labs - and there's more to come.
-
On your marks...
After successfully piloting the online mark viewing scheme with the Department of Sociology, it was released to all students in May 2012. You can now view unit assessment marks and ultimately your module marks (when all units have been completed), after the marks are published by faculty staff.
-
Following your feedback.
We have provided a new Study Skills Portal with helpful tutorials on:
-
Supporting your learning.
We have provided Matlab and GraphPad Prism as site licensed software, offered 24/7 access to OpenLab for FBEL students, and opened an iMac teaching room for Arts Production students.
