Workshop in Nutritional Assessment for Registered Exercise Professionals

Date and time: Friday 10th September 2010, 10.00 am – 5.30 pm. Coffee and registration at Surrey Sports Park from 9.30 am.

Why is a Workshop Needed?

Diet and nutrition are a vital part of any successful exercise programme. The nutritional needs of every individual are different and knowing how to assess these needs and monitor changes during an exercise programme is essential if you are to give appropriate nutritional guidance.

This workshop will provide you with a practical understanding of up-to-date techniques in nutritional assessment and make you better able to apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of their exercise and activity programme. 

Who is the Workshop For?

Fitness professionals who want to develop their knowledge in the area of nutrition and nutritional assessment. The Workshop is especially suitable for those currently working in the areas of weight management and sports nutrition. 

Workshop Content

A series of presentations, demonstrations and practical sessions

  • Body composition and anthropometry (theory and practical)
  • Fuel use and the nutritional demands of exercise
  • Appropriate role of sports nutrition products and ergogenic aids
  • Use and limitations of dietary assessment methods
  • Use of software for nutritional analysis
  • Designing and implementing programmes of nutritional assessment in your own fitness and exercise setting

Important note: This course is designed to provide a practical and theoretical understanding of nutritional assessment techniques. Completers will not become highly skilled in nutritional assessment, in a way that allows them to operate outside their specified role as exercise professionals. Completers will be made aware of when they should refer individuals to a Registered Dietitian.
