Wednesday 30 March 2011

A Symposium to Honour the Contribution of Professor Nicholas M Spyrou to the Postgraduate Education of Medical Physicists in Greece is to be held on Friday, 8th April 2011 in Athens.

The MSc course in Medical Physics in Surrey was established in 1974 and in the 1976-1977 session the first three Greek students were registered. To-date, more than 170 Greek students have graduated out of a total of over 1000 on the MSc course. Professor Spyrou has supervised 95 students to successful completion of their PhD degrees, nine of which were Greek.

It is expected that about 230 Medical Physicists and guests will attend. There will be several contributions by former students as well as video recorded messages by those who could not be present.

Nicholas Spyrou will give a talk on ‘Radiation and Medical Physics 40 years on’.

He will be presented with a medal commemorating the occasion.
