Departmental Seminar:  Jets and the Higgs Boson - latest news from the LHC

This semester’s Departmental Seminar will be given by Jonathan Butterworth, Professor of High Energy Physics at UCL. He will give us an update on the latest news from CERN about the Higgs Boson, and explain the significance of this discovery. The seminar is open to all students and staff, and will be  followed by drinks.

“The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is using proton-proton collisions to explore physics at higher energies than ever before. This is the region where the weak and electromagnetic forces unify, where mass originates, and where a new boson, which may well be the Higgs, has been discovered.
I will give an update on the status, with particular attention to the measurement of hadronic "jets" and their use in searches for new physics”
