Since it introduction in the 1950s, the effective Skyrme interaction has been widely used to describe a large range of nuclear phenomena across the nuclear chart and all the way up to neutron stars.  While it has been linked to realistic interactions (i.e. those which fit scattering data) and to QCD, the adjustable parameters in the force are most commonly fitted to Hartree-Fock calculations of properties such as ground state binding energies and radii, and nuclear matter properties.  This has led to a vast number of different parametrisations.  I will discuss some of our recent work categorising and constraining the parameterisations, and their ability to simultaneously fit a diverse range of observables.
