Changing Worlds - The Impact of University Research

Hosted by the SETsquared Partnership – the enterprise partnership of the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey – the Changing Worlds event will demonstrate how university research has created new industries, saved lives and changed the way we live by looking at the impact of research in communications, transport, the environment, health and society – nationally and across the globe.
Professor Jim Al-Khalili will be chairing a lunchtime panel discussion and Professor Stephen Sweeney will give a talk on the impact of the semiconductor laser on the UK economy.
Hear how research projects started, with in-depth information on how progress was made, who benefited from this work, and what happens next. University academics and their teams will present alongside their partners from industry. The Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Universities and Science Minister will be speaking at 1.30 pm.
