Joe Keddie's group develops a way of patterning surfaces using IR light
The process is cheap and flexible and the textured coatings could be used to reduce drag and so reduce fuel consumption on ships etc. Patents have been applied for and Joe is working with companies on EPSRC KTA funded follow-up work. For further details see the paper in Soft Matter.
